He said : “Each one of us is free to decide for themselves, but whoever refuses such an invitation lacks the true sporting spirit. To reach this level in a sport is to consider it as a job. To say no to playing golf at Olympics, after 112 years of its absence, is displaying disrespect both to their work and to those who would like to participate but can not”

After the “no thanks” of Scott, Schwartzel, Leishman, Singh and the the other, the Italian player added: “I don’t believe that behind this ‘no thanks’ there is a financial motive, given that there are no monetary prizes. The Olympics are an event on par with the Soccer World Cup and the Ryder Cup in golf. We compete at Ryder Cup and earn nothing, but we work hard for two years to be ready to play in those three days”.

Why is this not the case for Golf al the Olympics? (s.l.)
